GHK is most accurately understood as a 'gene-signaling' peptide. Microarray studies show it modulates more than 4,000 human genes, predominantly resetting them toward a younger expression profile — turning up genes involved in tissue remodeling, antioxidant defense, and DNA repair, and turning down genes involved in chronic inflammation and senescence.

Its copper-binding chemistry is central. Copper is a cofactor for lysyl oxidase (the enzyme that cross-links collagen) and superoxide dismutase (a major antioxidant enzyme). GHK acts as a chaperone that delivers copper to the right enzymes at the right time — a precision delivery system the body itself uses, which it loses with age.
