Mechanism of action

How it acts on the body
Epitalon's most discussed effect is on the pineal gland. Pineal function — and therefore melatonin output — declines steadily after early adulthood, and this decline is one driver of fragmented sleep, weaker circadian amplitude, and reduced antioxidant capacity at night. Epitalon appears to restore pineal melatonin synthesis in older animals back toward youthful patterns.
Its other reported effect is telomerase activation. In cell culture, Epitalon can extend telomeres by partially reactivating the telomerase enzyme that most somatic cells silence after development. Whether this translates to systemic anti-aging in humans is unproven, and telomerase activation in already-transformed cells is theoretically tumor-promoting, which is the basis for its biggest safety caution.
