How it acts on the body

DSIP's name is partly historical — its delta-wave-enhancing effects were prominent in early animal work but harder to reproduce in humans. What is more consistent is its effect on the HPA axis: it blunts stress-induced cortisol spikes and supports nighttime melatonin secretion, which produces a subjective improvement in sleep onset and depth even when EEG delta power changes only modestly.

It also modulates somatostatin, which is the brake on growth-hormone release, so it can indirectly support nocturnal GH pulses. This combination — calmer HPA axis, better sleep, supported GH — is the basis for its niche in recovery-focused research.
